May 12, 2019. #18. Hi, I have an MC 7200 with a c37 pre. i love this amp! It has been perfect for me. I replaced the front glass for around $120 from McIntosh. There is a wide and a narrow version of this amp. The McIntosh Compendium describes this. Look at MC7200 in the power amplifiers section.All of these amplifiers are highly regarded in the Mc aftermarket, with the MC2255 being the single most coveted of all of the amps of that era. As for the MC2255 vs. MC7270, that'd be hard. The MC2255 was the last McIntosh amp built on a chrome chassis. The MC7270 has a black painted chassis.This is over-stated on several points. Quads are considered some of the more difficult loads for amps and generally sound their best with tube amps. Even smaller tube amps, like those originally offered by Quad.
