The wreck occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, March 4, in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near exit 41 in West Islip. New York State Police said the driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identification is being withheld until their families can be notified, police said.
