How to read garmin side imaging.
Garmin GT54UHD-TM transducer issues. I have a new Parker 660 Pilothouse boat and had a GT54UHD-TM transducer with Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 95sv fitted by a local UK South Coast Boat Vendor who is also a Garmin agent. I am getting very poor performance and noise on a standard down view chirp sonar when the boat is only going 5mph.
The yellow cone represents conventional "2D" sonar and it's plain to see that it doesn't detect much. In fact, it's missing the crab trap to the left and the school of speckled trout to the right. The Lowrance/Simrad recommended mounting is on the starboard side, but in truth is recommended for boats with true inboards and relate to prop-wash. I myself have my SS3D transducer mounted on the port side and only have to trim the motor up slightly to get a clear reading when on side imaging, but I don't have the same boat.

The GT54UHD transducer gives me fine pictures, much better than my old 93sv+ and CV52. I have it mounted on the trolling motor.
