The Ford Forums have been a great help. This is my first post, as I just purchased an 850 and have a problem with the PTO. I can engage the PTO with no problem as long as there is nothing connected to it. As soon as I hook up the drive shaft for the Bush Hog, it just grinds when I try to engage the PTO, as if the clutch pedal was not down.

When you depress the clutch, forward motion and everything else should stop. If this is not happening, then the clutch plates have rusted together and you will have to try and break them free.

So I pulled out the rear bearing seal at the back of the tractor, above the PTO output shaft and gently wiggled the top shaft out. It was extremely painless. The lower PTO output shaft was equally painless. I can get to and removed 4 bearings. They are 2 each NSK 6207 and KOYO 6306.
