I did a UIM/LIM gasket job last year and Timing Cover-oil pah-engine mounts job this year, common thing I noticed there is alot of coolant still in the system after draing radiator ,like easily 2-3 quarts, on the UIM/LIM job I rember lots of coolant in LIM, so much that you need to be very careful when pulling it so it dosent go into cylnders.Im about to do LIM gasket. Strange squealing. i have a 1998 buick regal LS with the 3800 naturally aspirated. What happens is once the engine gets warmed up, i get a squeal coming from the engine. The squeal sound like a belt slipping or a bearing going out. I have replaced the belt, the belt tensioner, the alternator, and the water pump.

If this is the 3800, has the LIM gaskets been replaced? Possible the coolant getting in there. 2001 RegalGS with over 300,000. I bought the aluminum elbows seperately at Advance Auto Parts. I bought my upper and lower off eBay, it included the Dorman gaskets and the EGR tube. The EGR valve I bought seperately as well.

The UIM gasket falling apart is nothing unusual when removing the OE gasket from a RWD 3800 for the first time, it's just cracking because half of it is sticking to the UIM and half to the LIM. MN. Jun 19, 2006. #5. The plastic melting is one issue. Directly related to an air bubble in the system IMO, the other is the lower intake gaskets getting destroyed from unchanged coolant. Both are avoidable, and fairly easy to fix. The 3800 can take coolant leaks better then any other engine I've seen.Pan is steel, and looks to be held on by a frame between bolts and the pan itself. Up top, looks like it's also coming from the valley seal for the LIM. Coming from the corner nearest firewall on front side of motor, and making it's way down.
