I didn't want a basic Springfield and wanted a forged reciever, completely unaware that LRB was a thing at that time. I knew of Fulton, Springfield, Bula, Norinco, and James River.

No reason to get a BM-59 vs. M1A unless you are into collecting one. There are some great choices for M1A's / M14's and though more involved than an AR, you can build your own tackdriver. The JRA's must have been a big hit the BM59s where $1050 not long ago and IIRC the JRA M1a is a cast receiver for those that care.

JRA's initial M14 production used LRB marked receivers with surplus USGI kits and then moved on to 7.62mm marked receivers to save money. The first receivers marked James River Armory or Rock-Ola were produced for JRA by Bula Forge and Machine and then Bula Defense Systems. Sgt USMC 1966-1972.
